Possible Music to Use in My Trailer

I need to start thinking about the music I want to use to create suspense, tension and fear in my trailers. I am going to put together a potential playlist of music taken from OSTs of horror movies. The music should unsettle the audience and create enigma, but also reflect the danger that the characters are in.

In the horror genre the use of non-diegetic music helps create the fearful atmosphere of the movie, shaping the spectator's response to events taking place on screen.

Here is the stabbing sound from the film 'Psycho' during the infamous shower scene.

Some of the generic uses of music in the horror genre are:

Character leitmotifs - music associated with specific characters, introducing them to show that they are sinister and evil (if they are the antagonist).

To build tension - often this is followed with camera movement of a slow pan or a dolly out to reveal something, or even in a long take to increase suspense.

During an intense scene - often the music her is fast, as it helps to make the scene more intense and overwhelming for the viewer, mirroring the character's panic and fear.
